MJD Solicitors - In-House Services for Construction and Facilities Management Companies

In-House Services

Prior to establishing MJD Solicitors, Matthew Dillon spent nine years working as a senior in-house solicitor for various construction, facilities management, PFI and development companies, including FTSE 250 members Jarvis and more recently Laing.

The main benefit of working in-house is that a lawyer learns to apply the law in a totally commercial context as opposed to being overtly legalistic, a criticism of too many lawyers. Having a positive commercial approach is paramount in all that a good lawyer will do. Due to his extensive industry experience, Matthew brings to MJD Solicitors experience that few smaller law firms possess.

Matthew has been at the forefront of conducting a range of litigation on complex and unique issues and has experience of working with top city lawyers, barristers and mediators on disputes that although typically amounted to a few hundred thousand pounds, ranged in value from £5,000 to £4 million. Litigation is not only about the law but also strategy and experience with dealing with the demands, pressures and hostilities that are common place in significant litigation.

Perhaps somewhat unusual, Matthew also has experience of negotiating complex contracts, particularly in the field of construction law, employment, pfi and facilities management. Matthew has led commercial negotiations on countless big ticket contracts and has a keen eye for detail and getting the right deal for the client. Matthew brings all of his extensive experience to MJD Solicitors and now acts for an array of clients across the south of England.

However, we also recognise that some of our larger commercial clients prefer to use our services as an in-house lawyer as opposed to procuring advice through MJD Solicitors. This essentially means we use your note-paper and on occasions office space and telephones as opposed to our own; for all intents and purposes we become the client’s commercial in-house lawyer. Our charges for this service are negotiated on a case by case and client by client basis, depending upon the work we are to undertake. Typically, we would however expect to charge a fee in the region of £1250 - £2000 plus vat per day.
