Matthew Dillon, LLB (Hons), Solicitor

Matthew studied law at the University of Lancaster and the College of Law in York before returning home to Essex in 1994 to commence his legal training.

Matthew qualified as a Solicitor in January 1997, initially specialising in commercial dispute resolution before taking up positions as Senior Legal Counsel to FTSE 250 construction, investment and support services companies. Matthew has also worked as a Consultant to a London based law firm specialising in Commercial Law, Construction Law and Dispute Resolution.

Matthew has written widely on his subject of expertise and has presented a number of full day lectures for the Construction Study Centre touching on topics that include Party Walls, On Site Liability and Operational PFI Contracts.

Some of the key projects which Matthew has worked upon include:

  • Advised Employer in respect of a defective road bridge procured under an NEC Contract
  • Represented FM Contractor in a series of multi- million pound PFI disputes regarding defective school buildings
  • Represented Building Contractor in Professional Negligence claim against his Architect
  • Defended High Court Claims from Liquidator against Main Contractor
  • Represented both Employers and Contractors for claims relating to residential buildings
  • Represented both Claimants and Defendant in numerous Adjudications concerning defective works and disputed accounts with values ranging from £25K to £1M
  • Acted in Arbitrations with values upwards of £50K
  • Acted for FM Contractor in negotiation of 30 year Facilities Management Contract for Roseberry Park Hospital, Middlesbrough
  • Acted for Building Contractor in negotiation of £26M design and build contract and ancillary documentation for Gravesend Community Hospital
  • Acted for Building Contractor in negotiation of £6M design and build contract and ancillary documentation for St Mary's Hospital in Kettering
  • Acted for Building Contractor in negotiation of design and build contract and ancillary documentation for Eastbourne Custodial Centre and Gloucester Police Headquarters
  • Negotiated Joint venture Agreements for high value town centre re- development project in Tunbridge Wells
  • Defended claims for negligence, nuisance and trespass following development works
  • Negotiated high value IT contracts including the use of Maximo and Oracle software
  • Negotiated numerous small value construction and facilities management contracts including the preparation of "back to back" contracts
  • Negotiated terms for design and build contract in respect of Local Authority Accommodation in Croydon
